Anne Johnstone is a leading environmental and sustainability consultant specialising in the built environment. She is an inspiring role model, a highly respected expert in her field and a proactive advocate in addressing the property and construction sector’s gender imbalance at senior management level.

Anne founded Fair Futures Partnership in July 2020 to focus on working towards a just and fair zero carbon economy. She was formerly a Partner at Hollis, where her key achievements include establishing and growing a successful environmental team delivering high-quality service across the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe, developing an ESG due diligence product and driving the development of an innovative approach to establishing net zero carbon pathways for existing building stock. Simultaneously, she developed the company's Sustainability Strategy and supporting policies including a Sustainability Policy, Environmental Policy, Social Value Policy, Travel Policy and Supplier Code of Conduct. During her four years at Hollis, Anne was the only female client-facing partner at the firm.

Prior to Hollis, Anne spent 14 years at ENVIRON, now part of Ramboll, where she was responsible for the contaminated land and environmental due diligence teams in Scotland. She specialised in environmental due diligence, contaminated land investigation and risk assessment, providing strategic advice to a broad range of clients to help them identify environmental liabilities associated with property and business transactions, and assisted clients in realising the development of large-scale brownfield sites, including Ravenscraig, where she performed the role of Site-wide Environmental Consultant between 2003-2013. Anne was also involved in Net Environmental Benefit Analysis for offshore decommissioning projects in the North Sea, co-authoring a report on disposal options for drill cuttings piles and engaging with multiple stakeholders including the client, regulators and Greenpeace.

Anne is a prominent figure in the wider property industry. She was Chair of the UK Environmental Law Association (UKELA) from 2017 - 2019 - the first non-lawyer to do so and only the second woman in its 30 year history. In this role, Anne had the opportunity to address important environmental issues, particularly around Brexit. She is also on the board of the Investment Property Forum in Scotland, is a member of the Scottish Vacant and Derelict Land Taskforce and a board member of the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre

She is a Fellow of the RSA
